I have a problem: I am using windows 98, and have a wireless internet connection...I keep trying to get on to Elendor the MUSH, but it won't let me on. I've carefully checked the address and preferences. I had a friend of mine in my city try to get on, and it worked for him. I myself can access almost any other MUSH- just NOT Elendor! Other people can get on Elendor, though. I'm really confused and don't know what to do...I'd appreciate any help you could give me, thanks so much!!

What does it tell you when it reports connection failure?

Does it connect with something besides MUSHclient, such as telnet? I can connect to it right now. Try this link:

Well, if your wireless connection allows you to make these posts, there's no reason it wouldn't allow you to connect to that port. :)
There is a possibility that somebody somewhere along the line is blocking connections to that port. There was a similar problem not long ago where somebody could not connect to a MUD because his university blocked all non-standard ports (e.g. everything but 80, 21, 23... the normal stuff). That would be if you're in some extended LAN situation.

It IS weird- Elendor is the only MUSH i can't connect to...as far as my wireless goes, I've got a WLAN moniter...what should I do???
What was the info you got when you clicked the link I posted?
When I clicked the link, it came up with a page that said Elendor is working fine, which I'm sure it is. Other people can get on, just not me. I can connect to other MUSHes, just not elendor, and i've typed everything properly...when I try to connect with regular Telnet to elendor, it says 'program not responding', but even regular Telnet can connect to all other MUSHes...MUSHClient as well can connect to all other MUSHes, again, not Elendor...
Your LAN must be blocking port 1892 - I can't see why offhand, but I guess that the LAN goes to a central box, which you can probably get to by setting your web browser to its configuration address. Then check out its firewall settings.

Thanks for the link- perhaps it is blocking port 1892. But I've also tried accessing it in port 1893 and 443, and neither of those worked, either...how do I get it to stop blocking the port?

As I said earlier, you will need to configure the WLAN router to change the ports it blocks.
Well, either you're friends with the sysop and ask them very nicely to unblock it, or you're doomed to not be able to connect to anything on port 1892.
There actually are some other things you can try out. You can try using SSH Tunneling, but that's pretty complicated stuff and you may not want to go down that road. I wouldn't be able to help you too much with that, since I've only actually used it once.
What's your connection setup look like? Is your wireless access point a hub/router, or just an access point? Does it connect to a firewall somewhere in between it and the ISP? If so, where and who owns/runs it? Do you know them? Is it a company, a service, family...?

Connecting via a proxy server is another options, as MUSHclient supports SOCKS proxies. That is assuming they don't block the proxy port.
Thanks to everyone for all this help!! I'm looking into all of these great suggestions right away...except that I'm not very computer-talented- I mean, I can do things with the computer, but I need a bit of instructions...how do I get a proxy server and connect to Elendor with one?
Try a Google search for "public proxy server". Assuming you find one, and are allowed to use it, you could put the address and port of the proxy server into the MUSHclient "proxy server" box (first configuration screen).
